About
Pulmo Reef sits off the East Cape, part of the Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park — the oldest marine reserve in Mexico and one of the healthiest coral systems left in the Sea of Cortez. The reef spans multiple dive sites, from shallow finger formations where schools of jacks and snappers move like living walls to deeper drop-offs where rays and occasional bull sharks cruise the current. Visibility can push 100 feet when conditions line up. The single 5-star rating in our data doesn't tell you much beyond one satisfied diver, but the reef's reputation stands on decades of conservation work. Fish biomass has increased something like 450% since protection started in the '90s, and you see it: reef sharks, groupers the size of car tires, mobula rays in season. Most operators out of San José del Cabo or La Paz run full-day trips. It's a two-hour drive minimum from either hub, and the park requires permitted guides. Worth the logistics if you dive.
