Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort is an adults-only all-inclusive 4.5-star resort in San José del Cabo with 500 rooms rated 4.5/5 by 10,224 TripAdvisor reviewers; typical rates from about $550 a night; direct beach access.

About

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos sits on a quiet stretch of beach in San José del Cabo, tucked into the calmer east side of the cape. It's adults-only, which means no splash zones or chicken-nugget buffets — the pitch is swim-up bars, poolside service, and an actual spa people use. The 4.8 cleanliness score isn't decorative; housekeeping here is relentless, and the all-inclusive format means you're not navigating receipts every time you order a drink or book a treatment. Over ten thousand reviews have it at 4.5 overall, with service and sleep quality both clearing 4.6. The golf course next door is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus track if that matters to you; if not, the beach is swimmable most days, which isn't a given everywhere in Cabo. Location score sits at 4.5 — you're a short ride from the gallery district and restaurants in San José, but far enough out that the property itself stays quiet. Value comes in at 4.4, which is fair for an all-inclusive this dialed in.

What travelers are saying.

High confidence

Travelers say the staff at Secrets Puerto Los Cabos consistently deliver personalized service, learning guest names within days and responding quickly to requests. You'll find the pools and restaurants well-maintained, with Himitsu, Portofino, and the hibachi drawing repeat visits. The Preferred Club upgrade offers quieter pool access but delivers minimal alcohol differentiation beyond the main bars. Expect mosquitoes tied to the neighboring golf course irrigation, firm mattresses, and a rocky coastline with minimal beach access—though the Sea of Cortez views from select buildings partially compensate.

Watch-outs

Mosquitoes are persistent due to golf course irrigation, requiring maintenance to spray balconies
4 mentions
“Mosquitoes were constant because of water from the golf course until maintenance sprayed our patio”
Beach access is limited to rocky cliffs with no swimmable entry except a handful of lounges
5 mentions
“There's almost no beach—just rocks and maybe a dozen chairs near the water”
Preferred Club alcohol upgrade is minimal, with no better wine or champagne than regular bars
3 mentions
“Preferred lounge tequilas were only five dollars better than regular bars, not worth the hype”

Tips from travelers

Request Building 8 for actual oceanfront views—other buildings face gardens or limited water angles
Book Himitsu or Portofino early in your stay since popular slots fill quickly
Ask maintenance to spray your balcony preemptively if your room backs onto the golf course
Skip Preferred Club if top-shelf liquor matters—the upgrade applies mostly to pool ambiance, not bottles

Maybe skip if: Skip this resort if you prioritize a wide sandy beach for swimming or walking—the coastline here is rocky with minimal accessible shoreline.

Hotel El Ganzo

Hotel El Ganzo sits on La Playita beach in San José del Cabo, a working fishing village on the east end of town. The property splits the difference between boutique hotel and artist residency—rotating musicians and visual artists leave installations in the rooms and common spaces, and there's a recording studio downstairs that hosts live sessions most nights. It's a leftover from when this part of San José was still quiet. The 4.6 rating holds across most categories, with cleanliness scoring highest at 4.8 and rooms and sleep quality both at 4.7. Service and location match the overall mark. Value sits at 4.4, which makes sense given the price tier and the fact that you're paying for a scene as much as a stay. The rooftop pool overlooks the marina and the Sea of Cortez. Breakfast is strong. If you want the polished all-inclusive experience, this isn't it—but if you'd rather hear a jazz set than a cover band, it works.

JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa

The JW Marriott sits on the quieter Puerto Los Cabos side in San José del Cabo, where the Sea of Cortez is swimmable and the pace runs slower than downtown Cabo San Lucas. The resort pulls strong marks across the board—rooms and cleanliness both score 4.8, sleep quality and service hit 4.7—which suggests they're getting the basics right at scale. Over 2,000 reviews landed it at a solid 4.5, so the consistency is real. What stands out is the location rating at 4.5 despite being outside the Tourist Corridor. Puerto Los Cabos trades proximity to nightlife for actual swimming beaches and a marina feel. The value score of 4.2 is the lowest subcategory, which tracks for a full-service Marriott on the water—you're paying for reliability and the points program as much as the place itself. If you want a resort that works without surprises, this delivers that.

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos sits on the San José del Cabo beachfront where the malecón meets the sand. It's an all-inclusive built for families — pools, swim-up bars, kids' clubs, multiple restaurants under one wristband. The service rating at 4.6 backs up what you'll notice on arrival: staff moves fast, rooms turn over clean, and the beach setup gets restocked without you flagging anyone down. Rooms pull a 4.5 for both comfort and sleep quality, which matters when you're sharing walls with other families. The value score of 4.3 reflects what all-inclusives do — you prepay everything, so daily decisions shrink to where you eat dinner. Location works if you want the San José side but still want resort containment; downtown is a short ride if you need to leave the property. Fourteen thousand reviews at 4.4 overall means it delivers the expected all-inclusive experience consistently. Cleanliness scores high. If you're bringing kids and want predictable infrastructure, this does it.

Restaurants nearby

San José del Cabo

Flora's Field Kitchen

Flora's Field Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant out in Animas Bajas, about twenty minutes east of San José del Cabo. It sits on a working organic farm, which means the menu changes based on what's ready — mostly salads, wood-fired pizzas, and composed plates that lean vegetable-forward. The atmosphere rating (4.8) isn't surprising; you're eating outside under trees with rows of crops on all sides, and it feels a world away from the hotel zone. The food scores higher than the value, which tracks — portions are moderate and prices reflect the ingredients and the setting. Service is polished without feeling formal. Reservations help, especially on weekends when the brunch crowd shows up. It's a popular stop for people staying in the East Cape or anyone looking for something slower and greener than the beachfront scene.

San José del Cabo

Habanero's Gastro Grill

Habanero's Gastro Grill is on Morelos in the center of San José del Cabo, a block or two back from the art district. It's been open long enough to rack up 1,600-plus reviews and still hold a 4.5, which tells you something about consistency. The food subrating edges above the rest at 4.6, and the value rating at 4.4 suggests they're not gouging tourists on mid-range pricing. The menu skews modern Mexican with grill work—hence the name—and the kitchen clearly delivers more than standard resort fare. Service runs tight at 4.6, so expect your plates when they're supposed to arrive. The atmosphere rating sits a notch lower at 4.3, which probably means the room is functional but not trying to be a scene. It's a solid pick if you're staying in San José and want something better than average without crossing into the fine-dining column. Reservations help on weekends.

San José del Cabo

Don Sanchez Restaurant

Don Sanchez sits on Boulevard Mijares in the heart of San José del Cabo's art district, and it's one of the few fine-dining spots in town that locals actually recommend. The 4.7 food rating across more than 1,300 reviews tells you what you need to know — the kitchen is consistent and the menu doesn't rely on tricks. Service matches the same 4.7, which matters when you're paying fine-dining prices and the room is full. The atmosphere rating is equally high, so expect tablecloths and a slower pace than the taco stands down the street. The value subrating sits at 4.4, which is solid for the category — fine dining in Cabo can feel extractive, and this doesn't. If you're spending a night in San José and want a proper dinner without driving back toward the Corridor, this is the move.
