About

Flora's Field Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant out in Animas Bajas, about twenty minutes east of San José del Cabo. It sits on a working organic farm, which means the menu changes based on what's ready — mostly salads, wood-fired pizzas, and composed plates that lean vegetable-forward. The atmosphere rating (4.8) isn't surprising; you're eating outside under trees with rows of crops on all sides, and it feels a world away from the hotel zone. The food scores higher than the value, which tracks — portions are moderate and prices reflect the ingredients and the setting. Service is polished without feeling formal. Reservations help, especially on weekends when the brunch crowd shows up. It's a popular stop for people staying in the East Cape or anyone looking for something slower and greener than the beachfront scene.

Tours & things to do nearby

SALTY CABO Excursions

SALTY CABO Excursions runs out of La Playa in San José del Cabo, and the 5-out-of-5 rating across 604 reviews puts it near the top of the waterborne options here. This is a four-hour outing at moderate intensity, so you're active but not white-knuckling it — expect a mix of snorkeling, cruising, and probably some paddleboard time depending on conditions. The price sits around $100 per person, which is standard for a half-day water trip in the area. What separates them is consistency. Six hundred reviews at a perfect rating means they're doing something right with groups, gear, and crew. Most operators in Cabo hit the same spots — the arch, Pelican Rock, Lover's Beach — but execution varies wildly. SALTY keeps it smooth. Book direct through their site to avoid markup and get on the schedule early, especially in high season when morning departures fill fast.

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos operates out of Puerto los Cabos in San José del Cabo, where the marina puts you on calm water for trying out a flyboard—essentially boots strapped to a jet of water that lift you up to 15 feet if you get the balance right. The 5/5 rating across 352 reviews suggests the instructors walk beginners through it without making anyone feel like an idiot, which matters when you're hovering over the Sea of Cortez on what feels like a fire hose. Most people spend the first ten minutes face-planting, then another ten actually flying, which is apparently enough to make it worth the trip. The marina location means you're not fighting surf or boat traffic, just working on not flipping backward. Expect to get wet, expect to laugh at yourself, and if you've got decent core strength you'll probably pick it up faster than you think.

Misión San José del Cabo

The original mission church stands in the center of San José del Cabo, anchoring the town plaza where the Gallery District spreads out to the north. Built in the 18th century after earlier versions were destroyed, it's a working parish church with a tile mural over the entrance depicting the martyrdom of Padre Tamaral — a violent episode from mission history that's unusual to see rendered so explicitly. The interior is simple, whitewashed, with wooden beams and local santos, and mass still runs most evenings. It's rated 4.3 across 860-plus reviews, which is solid for a historic site that isn't trying to entertain. Most people stop by during a Thursday evening art walk or while wandering the plaza. You can walk in free when services aren't happening. The surrounding square has benches under fig trees and usually a few vendors — it's the calm center of town before the galleries and restaurants take over a block north.

Recent Pulse

What travelers are saying.

Steady

Low confidence

Travelers say Flora's Field Kitchen delivers on its farm-to-table promise with visibly fresh produce picked from surrounding crops. The grounds—complete with shops, a pond, and live music—are a destination in themselves, though the bumpy dirt road access surprises first-timers. Most meals land well, especially pizzas and composed vegetable dishes, but portions run moderate and prices have climbed steeply since prior years. Service ranges from warm and knowledgeable to rushed or inattentive depending on the night.

Standing out

Vegetables and produce picked same-morning from visible surrounding crops
28 mentions
“You can see the rows of crops around you and taste the difference in freshness”
Wood-fired pizzas praised for crust and toppings, especially Margherita and tomato-bacon
15 mentions
“The pizza rivals what you'd find in Naples, with a perfect crust”
Grounds with boutique shops, bakery, pond with turtles, and live bands create full-afternoon oasis vibe
32 mentions
“Allow extra time to wander the lit-up gardens and visit the artisanal boutiques”
Sea bass and fresh catch dishes consistently praised for seasoning and preparation
8 mentions
“The sea bass was perhaps the best meal I've ever had, seasoned perfectly”
Signature cocktails like carrot margarita, hibiscus margarita, and farm julep
12 mentions
“The carrot margarita sounds odd but is surprisingly refreshing, a must-try”

Watch-outs

Prices have increased sharply—pasta and special recently totaled $315 USD for two without apps or dessert
11 mentions
“A single 12-inch pizza is now $38 USD plus tip, up from prior years”
Service inconsistent—some nights rushed with plates cleared mid-bite, other nights inattentive or forgotten orders
9 mentions
“Dinner was done in under 45 minutes with plates removed while still eating”
Tuesday fried chicken special delivers tiny portions—three small pieces for $60 per person
3 mentions
“Got one wing, one small drumstick, and a sliver of breast for the price”

Tips from travelers

Arrive at least 45 minutes early to walk the grounds, browse shops, and grab a cocktail at the farm bar
Book well in advance, especially for weekends and holidays—same-week reservations are rare
Expect a bumpy dirt road for over a mile after the turnoff; don't worry, you're not lost
Go later in the evening if you want fewer families; early dinner draws a heavy kid crowd

Maybe skip if: Skip this if you want attentive pacing and dislike feeling rushed through a high-priced meal, or if you're looking for generous portions at Cabo prices rather than California wine-country pricing.

Habanero's Gastro Grill

Habanero's Gastro Grill is on Morelos in the center of San José del Cabo, a block or two back from the art district. It's been open long enough to rack up 1,600-plus reviews and still hold a 4.5, which tells you something about consistency. The food subrating edges above the rest at 4.6, and the value rating at 4.4 suggests they're not gouging tourists on mid-range pricing. The menu skews modern Mexican with grill work—hence the name—and the kitchen clearly delivers more than standard resort fare. Service runs tight at 4.6, so expect your plates when they're supposed to arrive. The atmosphere rating sits a notch lower at 4.3, which probably means the room is functional but not trying to be a scene. It's a solid pick if you're staying in San José and want something better than average without crossing into the fine-dining column. Reservations help on weekends.

Don Sanchez Restaurant

Don Sanchez sits on Boulevard Mijares in the heart of San José del Cabo's art district, and it's one of the few fine-dining spots in town that locals actually recommend. The 4.7 food rating across more than 1,300 reviews tells you what you need to know — the kitchen is consistent and the menu doesn't rely on tricks. Service matches the same 4.7, which matters when you're paying fine-dining prices and the room is full. The atmosphere rating is equally high, so expect tablecloths and a slower pace than the taco stands down the street. The value subrating sits at 4.4, which is solid for the category — fine dining in Cabo can feel extractive, and this doesn't. If you're spending a night in San José and want a proper dinner without driving back toward the Corridor, this is the move.

Baja Brewing Companies original brewing location with 15+ years of history located in the heart of the historic downtown art district, San Jose Del Cabo.

Baja Brewing San José Del Cabo | Cantina

Baja Brewing San José del Cabo sits in the historic center, a block or two off the main plaza on Morelos. It's the brewery-meets-cantina version of the original up the coast — beer made on-site, pub menu that runs beyond the usual fish tacos. The 4.5 rating across 1,300+ reviews is consistent: food, service, and atmosphere all land in the same range, which means they're not coasting on the beer alone. The atmosphere score edges slightly higher, probably because of the patio and the fact that it's one of the few spots in the old town where you can sit outside with a flight and not feel like you're in a postcard shop. Mid-range pricing keeps it accessible, and the value subrating suggests portions hold up. If you want something darker or hoppier than a Corona and you're already walking the art district, this works. Gets busy Thursday through Saturday evenings.

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos sits on a quiet stretch of beach in San José del Cabo, tucked into the calmer east side of the cape. It's adults-only, which means no splash zones or chicken-nugget buffets — the pitch is swim-up bars, poolside service, and an actual spa people use. The 4.8 cleanliness score isn't decorative; housekeeping here is relentless, and the all-inclusive format means you're not navigating receipts every time you order a drink or book a treatment. Over ten thousand reviews have it at 4.5 overall, with service and sleep quality both clearing 4.6. The golf course next door is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus track if that matters to you; if not, the beach is swimmable most days, which isn't a given everywhere in Cabo. Location score sits at 4.5 — you're a short ride from the gallery district and restaurants in San José, but far enough out that the property itself stays quiet. Value comes in at 4.4, which is fair for an all-inclusive this dialed in.

San José del Cabo

Hotel El Ganzo

Hotel El Ganzo sits on La Playita beach in San José del Cabo, a working fishing village on the east end of town. The property splits the difference between boutique hotel and artist residency—rotating musicians and visual artists leave installations in the rooms and common spaces, and there's a recording studio downstairs that hosts live sessions most nights. It's a leftover from when this part of San José was still quiet. The 4.6 rating holds across most categories, with cleanliness scoring highest at 4.8 and rooms and sleep quality both at 4.7. Service and location match the overall mark. Value sits at 4.4, which makes sense given the price tier and the fact that you're paying for a scene as much as a stay. The rooftop pool overlooks the marina and the Sea of Cortez. Breakfast is strong. If you want the polished all-inclusive experience, this isn't it—but if you'd rather hear a jazz set than a cover band, it works.
