About

Cabo BBQ is in San José del Cabo, tucked inside El Merkado food hall off the Transpeninsular. The subratings tell the story: perfect scores for food, service, and atmosphere, with value close behind at 4.7 out of 5. That's unusual at mid-range pricing, and it means the portions or quality or both are clearing the bar. Twenty reviews isn't a massive sample, but a 4.8 average suggests consistency. The food hall setting means you order at the counter, grab a table in the shared space, and they bring it out. It works if you want actual barbecue without committing to a full sit-down dinner. The kitchen is doing something right to hit a 5.0 on food — likely smoke, seasoning, and meat quality that doesn't shortcut. If you're near the Costco stretch of the highway and want something more interesting than the resort buffet, this is the move.

Tours & things to do nearby

High Tide Sea Expeditions

High Tide Sea Expeditions runs small-group boat trips out of Cabo San Lucas, and the 5/5 rating across nearly 5,000 reviews puts them at the top of the activity heap locally. They're known for whale watching in season and year-round snorkeling runs to spots around the arch and up toward Santa Maria. The boats max out around a dozen people, so you're not fighting for rail space, and the crew actually explains what you're looking at instead of just pointing. The review volume suggests they move a lot of guests without the rating sliding, which is harder than it sounds in the excursion business. Expect a morning departure, a couple of hours on the water, and decent odds of seeing mantas or sea lions depending on the season. They handle pickups from most hotels in the tourist corridor. Book ahead if you're traveling in winter — the humpback window fills fast.

Dunes Tours & Travel

Dunes Tours & Travel operates out of San José del Cabo and runs a tight booking operation—24 reviews, all five stars, which in the tour world usually means they're doing something right with logistics and guide quality. They handle the standard Cabo spread: ATV rides through the desert, snorkeling trips to the arch, sunset cruises, whale watching in season. The perfect rating suggests they're consistent on the details that matter—pickups on time, equipment that works, guides who know the difference between a sea lion and a seal. What stands out is the reliability factor. Small tour operators in Cabo can be hit or miss on communication and execution, but a spotless rating across two dozen reviews points to someone answering the phone and delivering what they promised. If you're coordinating multiple activities across a trip and need one point of contact who won't ghost you, this is the type of outfit that keeps your itinerary from falling apart.

F45 San José Del Cabo

F45 San José Del Cabo runs high-intensity interval training classes in Plaza Peninsula. The single review gave it a perfect score, but one data point doesn't tell you much beyond that somebody showed up and liked it. The format is F45's standard 45-minute circuit: functional movements, team-based stations, and trainers calling time. If you've done F45 elsewhere, this is the same system—get in, work hard, get out. The gym sits in a shopping plaza near the San José hotel zone, which makes it accessible if you're staying on that side of the corridor and want to keep a routine going. Classes run on a schedule, so check times before you plan around it. Expect English and Spanish in the room depending on who's there that day.

Flora's Field Kitchen

Flora's Field Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant out in Animas Bajas, about twenty minutes east of San José del Cabo. It sits on a working organic farm, which means the menu changes based on what's ready — mostly salads, wood-fired pizzas, and composed plates that lean vegetable-forward. The atmosphere rating (4.8) isn't surprising; you're eating outside under trees with rows of crops on all sides, and it feels a world away from the hotel zone. The food scores higher than the value, which tracks — portions are moderate and prices reflect the ingredients and the setting. Service is polished without feeling formal. Reservations help, especially on weekends when the brunch crowd shows up. It's a popular stop for people staying in the East Cape or anyone looking for something slower and greener than the beachfront scene.

El Merkado

El Merkado is tucked into a courtyard off the highway in San José del Cabo, built around a bunch of independent food stalls and a central bar. The atmosphere rating (4.6) is the tell—this is the kind of place where you order tacos from one counter, ceviche from another, and wood-fired pizza from a third, then grab a table wherever you can find one. The food holds up (4.5), and at mid-range pricing with a 4.3 value score, it's aimed at people who want variety without the resort markup. Service is looser than a single-kitchen restaurant because you're dealing with multiple vendors, but the 4.4 suggests most of them keep it moving. It fills up with a mix of locals and tourists who've figured out that San José has better food infrastructure than the Cabo San Lucas marina strip. Go hungry enough to try more than one stall.

Habanero's Gastro Grill

Habanero's Gastro Grill is on Morelos in the center of San José del Cabo, a block or two back from the art district. It's been open long enough to rack up 1,600-plus reviews and still hold a 4.5, which tells you something about consistency. The food subrating edges above the rest at 4.6, and the value rating at 4.4 suggests they're not gouging tourists on mid-range pricing. The menu skews modern Mexican with grill work—hence the name—and the kitchen clearly delivers more than standard resort fare. Service runs tight at 4.6, so expect your plates when they're supposed to arrive. The atmosphere rating sits a notch lower at 4.3, which probably means the room is functional but not trying to be a scene. It's a solid pick if you're staying in San José and want something better than average without crossing into the fine-dining column. Reservations help on weekends.

Tourist Corridor

Marquis Los Cabos

Marquis Los Cabos sits on the Tourist Corridor, about halfway between the two towns, and the service rating of 4.8 is the tell — this is a property that runs tight. The sleep quality and cleanliness scores match that standard, which matters more than most people admit when they're booking. It's not the flashiest resort on the strip, but the value subrating at 4.5 suggests you're getting what you pay for without the markup that comes with a scene. The room rating holds at 4.7 across more than 7,000 reviews, so the consistency is real. Location puts you in reach of both Cabo San Lucas and San José del Cabo without committing to either, which works if you want beach access and a base that doesn't require navigating spring break energy every time you leave your room. It's a straightforward pick if you care more about how the place operates than how it photographs.

Tourist Corridor

Hilton Los Cabos

The Hilton Los Cabos sits on the Tourist Corridor between the two Cabos, close enough to San José del Cabo to feel accessible without being stuck in the middle of town. The 4.8 service rating and matching cleanliness score put it ahead of most large resorts in the area — these aren't abstract numbers when you're dealing with 6,000-plus reviews. Rooms and sleep quality both hit 4.7, which matters more than the lobby does. The value subrating of 4.4 suggests it's priced like a full-service Hilton, not a budget play, but the overall 4.7 rating means people mostly think it's fair. Location sits at 4.6, which tracks — you're not walking to much, but you're a short ride from either town and the beach access is direct. If you want a reliable stay with strong execution on the basics and you're fine trading walkability for space and shoreline, this does the job.

Tourist Corridor

One&Only Palmilla

One&Only Palmilla sits on a private cove in the Tourist Corridor between the two Cabos, and the 4.9 location score reflects exactly that — you're close to both towns but not stuck in either. The resort has been here long enough to have the mature palms and the muscle memory, and the 4.8s across rooms, sleep quality, service, and cleanliness show consistency at the operational level. It's not trying to be a party property or an all-inclusive assembly line. The price tier is high, and the 4.4 value rating suggests guests know it, but the service score holds. Rooms skew traditional luxury rather than minimalist, and the beach is calm enough for actual swimming most of the year, which isn't a given on this coast. If you want the polished resort experience without the crowds or the noise, this is the reliable bet in the corridor.

Baja Brewing San José Del Cabo | Cantina

Baja Brewing San José del Cabo sits in the historic center, a block or two off the main plaza on Morelos. It's the brewery-meets-cantina version of the original up the coast — beer made on-site, pub menu that runs beyond the usual fish tacos. The 4.5 rating across 1,300+ reviews is consistent: food, service, and atmosphere all land in the same range, which means they're not coasting on the beer alone. The atmosphere score edges slightly higher, probably because of the patio and the fact that it's one of the few spots in the old town where you can sit outside with a flight and not feel like you're in a postcard shop. Mid-range pricing keeps it accessible, and the value subrating suggests portions hold up. If you want something darker or hoppier than a Corona and you're already walking the art district, this works. Gets busy Thursday through Saturday evenings.

San José del Cabo

Lolita Cafe

Lolita Cafe sits on a quiet street in San José del Cabo's art district, and it draws a steady local crowd for breakfast and lunch. The 4.8 rating across food, service, and atmosphere isn't fluff — the kitchen holds that line across nearly 600 reviews, which is harder than it sounds at this price point. The menu leans simple: eggs, pancakes, tortas, and a rotation of daily specials that changes based on what's good. Value scores high because portions are fair and the bill doesn't punish you for ordering coffee and splitting a plate. Service is quick without rushing you out, which matters if you're lingering over a second cup or waiting out morning heat before walking the galleries. It's not a scene. It's a neighborhood cafe that happens to be very good at what it does. Go early on weekends if you don't want to wait for a table.
