About

El Burro Sashimis is a cheap-eats spot in San José del Cabo, over on Paseo del Barlovento near the marina. The name tells you what you're getting: sashimi-grade fish served in a format that doesn't take itself too seriously. With only eight reviews logged, it's still under the radar, but the 5.0 rating across food, value, and service suggests the handful of people who've found it are coming back. The combination of perfect scores and rock-bottom pricing is unusual—most places trade one for the other. Here, you're getting fresh fish at a price point that competes with taco stands, which explains the appeal. It's not a white-tablecloth experience, and the location by Marine Group isn't tourist-heavy, so you're mostly eating with locals who know the deal. If you're in San José and want something off the standard hotel-restaurant circuit, this works. Just know the review pool is small, so calibrate expectations accordingly.

Tours & things to do nearby

SALTY CABO Excursions

SALTY CABO Excursions runs out of La Playa in San José del Cabo, and the 5-out-of-5 rating across 604 reviews puts it near the top of the waterborne options here. This is a four-hour outing at moderate intensity, so you're active but not white-knuckling it — expect a mix of snorkeling, cruising, and probably some paddleboard time depending on conditions. The price sits around $100 per person, which is standard for a half-day water trip in the area. What separates them is consistency. Six hundred reviews at a perfect rating means they're doing something right with groups, gear, and crew. Most operators in Cabo hit the same spots — the arch, Pelican Rock, Lover's Beach — but execution varies wildly. SALTY keeps it smooth. Book direct through their site to avoid markup and get on the schedule early, especially in high season when morning departures fill fast.

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos operates out of Puerto los Cabos in San José del Cabo, where the marina puts you on calm water for trying out a flyboard—essentially boots strapped to a jet of water that lift you up to 15 feet if you get the balance right. The 5/5 rating across 352 reviews suggests the instructors walk beginners through it without making anyone feel like an idiot, which matters when you're hovering over the Sea of Cortez on what feels like a fire hose. Most people spend the first ten minutes face-planting, then another ten actually flying, which is apparently enough to make it worth the trip. The marina location means you're not fighting surf or boat traffic, just working on not flipping backward. Expect to get wet, expect to laugh at yourself, and if you've got decent core strength you'll probably pick it up faster than you think.

Misión San José del Cabo

The original mission church stands in the center of San José del Cabo, anchoring the town plaza where the Gallery District spreads out to the north. Built in the 18th century after earlier versions were destroyed, it's a working parish church with a tile mural over the entrance depicting the martyrdom of Padre Tamaral — a violent episode from mission history that's unusual to see rendered so explicitly. The interior is simple, whitewashed, with wooden beams and local santos, and mass still runs most evenings. It's rated 4.3 across 860-plus reviews, which is solid for a historic site that isn't trying to entertain. Most people stop by during a Thursday evening art walk or while wandering the plaza. You can walk in free when services aren't happening. The surrounding square has benches under fig trees and usually a few vendors — it's the calm center of town before the galleries and restaurants take over a block north.

Habanero's Gastro Grill

Habanero's Gastro Grill is on Morelos in the center of San José del Cabo, a block or two back from the art district. It's been open long enough to rack up 1,600-plus reviews and still hold a 4.5, which tells you something about consistency. The food subrating edges above the rest at 4.6, and the value rating at 4.4 suggests they're not gouging tourists on mid-range pricing. The menu skews modern Mexican with grill work—hence the name—and the kitchen clearly delivers more than standard resort fare. Service runs tight at 4.6, so expect your plates when they're supposed to arrive. The atmosphere rating sits a notch lower at 4.3, which probably means the room is functional but not trying to be a scene. It's a solid pick if you're staying in San José and want something better than average without crossing into the fine-dining column. Reservations help on weekends.

Baja Brewing San José Del Cabo | Cantina

Baja Brewing San José del Cabo sits in the historic center, a block or two off the main plaza on Morelos. It's the brewery-meets-cantina version of the original up the coast — beer made on-site, pub menu that runs beyond the usual fish tacos. The 4.5 rating across 1,300+ reviews is consistent: food, service, and atmosphere all land in the same range, which means they're not coasting on the beer alone. The atmosphere score edges slightly higher, probably because of the patio and the fact that it's one of the few spots in the old town where you can sit outside with a flight and not feel like you're in a postcard shop. Mid-range pricing keeps it accessible, and the value subrating suggests portions hold up. If you want something darker or hoppier than a Corona and you're already walking the art district, this works. Gets busy Thursday through Saturday evenings.

La Lupita Taco & Mezcal

La Lupita sits in the heart of downtown San José del Cabo, a couple blocks from the plaza, and it draws the kind of crowd that knows the difference between tourist tacos and the real thing. The 4.6 food rating isn't hard to explain — this is straightforward Mexican cooking done right, with a mezcal list that takes the category seriously. Over 1,200 reviews keep it steady at 4.5 overall, which at mid-range pricing suggests consistency more than novelty. The vibe is casual enough for kids but grown-up enough that the mezcal selection matters. Atmosphere scores slightly lower than food, which tracks — you're here to eat, not to linger over decor. The value rating at 4.4 means portion sizes and pricing feel fair, and that's worth noting in a town where taco spots can swing wildly. Walk-ins work fine; no need to call ahead.

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos sits on the San José del Cabo beachfront where the malecón meets the sand. It's an all-inclusive built for families — pools, swim-up bars, kids' clubs, multiple restaurants under one wristband. The service rating at 4.6 backs up what you'll notice on arrival: staff moves fast, rooms turn over clean, and the beach setup gets restocked without you flagging anyone down. Rooms pull a 4.5 for both comfort and sleep quality, which matters when you're sharing walls with other families. The value score of 4.3 reflects what all-inclusives do — you prepay everything, so daily decisions shrink to where you eat dinner. Location works if you want the San José side but still want resort containment; downtown is a short ride if you need to leave the property. Fourteen thousand reviews at 4.4 overall means it delivers the expected all-inclusive experience consistently. Cleanliness scores high. If you're bringing kids and want predictable infrastructure, this does it.

San José del Cabo

Royal Solaris Los Cabos

Royal Solaris Los Cabos anchors the southern end of the hotel zone in San José del Cabo, close enough to the marina to walk but far enough out to have elbow room. It's an all-inclusive built for families who want predictable value — serviceable rooms, multiple pools, and nightly entertainment that runs the gamut from mariachi to foam parties. The staff scores consistently high, which matters when you're dealing with kids and meal timing. Rooms and sleep quality sit at 4.0, so manage expectations accordingly; this isn't a design showcase, but cleanliness holds at 4.4 and the price tier reflects what you're getting. The location rating of 4.4 makes sense if you're okay being a short taxi ride from the San José art walk and slightly removed from downtown Cabo San Lucas. It's quieter here. The beach isn't swimmable most of the year, but the pool setup compensates. If you need every meal and drink covered without scanning menus for prices, it does the job without drama.

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos sits on a quiet stretch of beach in San José del Cabo, tucked into the calmer east side of the cape. It's adults-only, which means no splash zones or chicken-nugget buffets — the pitch is swim-up bars, poolside service, and an actual spa people use. The 4.8 cleanliness score isn't decorative; housekeeping here is relentless, and the all-inclusive format means you're not navigating receipts every time you order a drink or book a treatment. Over ten thousand reviews have it at 4.5 overall, with service and sleep quality both clearing 4.6. The golf course next door is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus track if that matters to you; if not, the beach is swimmable most days, which isn't a given everywhere in Cabo. Location score sits at 4.5 — you're a short ride from the gallery district and restaurants in San José, but far enough out that the property itself stays quiet. Value comes in at 4.4, which is fair for an all-inclusive this dialed in.

Spicy Tuna Sushi Bar

Spicy Tuna Sushi Bar operates out of a small plaza on the malecón in San José del Cabo, where the sushi comes out fast and the prices stay reasonable. The 4.8 food rating holds up — people come back for consistent execution on rolls and sashimi without the resort markup. Service moves at the same pace, which matters when you're feeding kids or just want to eat and walk the waterfront. The atmosphere is casual, more counter-service than white-tablecloth, and that's reflected in the value score. You're not booking ahead or waiting for a table. You order, you sit, you eat. The mid-range price tier means you can bring a family without calculating the damage, and the menu skews accessible rather than omakase-precious. It's a functional stop in a tourist zone that hasn't slipped into phone-it-in territory. If you want sushi in San José without the ceremony, this works.

San José del Cabo

Nido

Nido sits on the malecón in San José del Cabo's Hotel Zone, and the 4.8 atmosphere score tells the story—it's the kind of Japanese seafood spot where the setting does half the work. The cuisine leans into coastal Japan by way of Baja: sashimi, nigiri, and rolls built around what's fresh, with a few grilled plates that bridge the gap. Fine dining here means presentation and plating, not necessarily rigid formality, though the upscale vibe and price tier keep it firmly in the special-occasion category. The 4.6 overall rating across 123 reviews holds steady on all fronts—food, service, and value each land around 4.4 to 4.5, which suggests consistency more than fireworks. You're paying for the waterfront perch and the polish. It's not kid-friendly, and there's no mention of dietary accommodations, so plan accordingly. Reservations aren't required, but walking in on a weekend sunset might test your patience.
