About

Ricketts Bar MX is on Boulevard Mijares in San José del Cabo, the walkable main drag that runs toward the estuary. It's a small spot with a perfect 5-star rating across 12 reviews, which at mid-range pricing suggests they're doing something consistently right. The value and service subratings both max out at 5, and in a town where tourist-trap pricing is common along Mijares, that combination stands out. The review count is still building, but the unanimous scoring across fundamentals—value, service, execution—means repeat visitors or strong word-of-mouth. Mid-range in San José usually means you're paying for quality without the resort markup, and the location puts you within walking distance of the art district and the mission square. Worth checking if you want neighborhood atmosphere without the guesswork.

Tours & things to do nearby

High Tide Sea Expeditions

High Tide Sea Expeditions runs small-group boat trips out of Cabo San Lucas, and the 5/5 rating across nearly 5,000 reviews puts them at the top of the activity heap locally. They're known for whale watching in season and year-round snorkeling runs to spots around the arch and up toward Santa Maria. The boats max out around a dozen people, so you're not fighting for rail space, and the crew actually explains what you're looking at instead of just pointing. The review volume suggests they move a lot of guests without the rating sliding, which is harder than it sounds in the excursion business. Expect a morning departure, a couple of hours on the water, and decent odds of seeing mantas or sea lions depending on the season. They handle pickups from most hotels in the tourist corridor. Book ahead if you're traveling in winter — the humpback window fills fast.

SALTY CABO Excursions

SALTY CABO Excursions runs out of La Playa in San José del Cabo, and the 5-out-of-5 rating across 604 reviews puts it near the top of the waterborne options here. This is a four-hour outing at moderate intensity, so you're active but not white-knuckling it — expect a mix of snorkeling, cruising, and probably some paddleboard time depending on conditions. The price sits around $100 per person, which is standard for a half-day water trip in the area. What separates them is consistency. Six hundred reviews at a perfect rating means they're doing something right with groups, gear, and crew. Most operators in Cabo hit the same spots — the arch, Pelican Rock, Lover's Beach — but execution varies wildly. SALTY keeps it smooth. Book direct through their site to avoid markup and get on the schedule early, especially in high season when morning departures fill fast.

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos

Hydro FlyBoard Los Cabos operates out of Puerto los Cabos in San José del Cabo, where the marina puts you on calm water for trying out a flyboard—essentially boots strapped to a jet of water that lift you up to 15 feet if you get the balance right. The 5/5 rating across 352 reviews suggests the instructors walk beginners through it without making anyone feel like an idiot, which matters when you're hovering over the Sea of Cortez on what feels like a fire hose. Most people spend the first ten minutes face-planting, then another ten actually flying, which is apparently enough to make it worth the trip. The marina location means you're not fighting surf or boat traffic, just working on not flipping backward. Expect to get wet, expect to laugh at yourself, and if you've got decent core strength you'll probably pick it up faster than you think.

Flora's Field Kitchen

Flora's Field Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant out in Animas Bajas, about twenty minutes east of San José del Cabo. It sits on a working organic farm, which means the menu changes based on what's ready — mostly salads, wood-fired pizzas, and composed plates that lean vegetable-forward. The atmosphere rating (4.8) isn't surprising; you're eating outside under trees with rows of crops on all sides, and it feels a world away from the hotel zone. The food scores higher than the value, which tracks — portions are moderate and prices reflect the ingredients and the setting. Service is polished without feeling formal. Reservations help, especially on weekends when the brunch crowd shows up. It's a popular stop for people staying in the East Cape or anyone looking for something slower and greener than the beachfront scene.

Habanero's Gastro Grill

Habanero's Gastro Grill is on Morelos in the center of San José del Cabo, a block or two back from the art district. It's been open long enough to rack up 1,600-plus reviews and still hold a 4.5, which tells you something about consistency. The food subrating edges above the rest at 4.6, and the value rating at 4.4 suggests they're not gouging tourists on mid-range pricing. The menu skews modern Mexican with grill work—hence the name—and the kitchen clearly delivers more than standard resort fare. Service runs tight at 4.6, so expect your plates when they're supposed to arrive. The atmosphere rating sits a notch lower at 4.3, which probably means the room is functional but not trying to be a scene. It's a solid pick if you're staying in San José and want something better than average without crossing into the fine-dining column. Reservations help on weekends.

Baja Brewing Companies original brewing location with 15+ years of history located in the heart of the historic downtown art district, San Jose Del Cabo.

Baja Brewing San José Del Cabo | Cantina

Baja Brewing San José del Cabo sits in the historic center, a block or two off the main plaza on Morelos. It's the brewery-meets-cantina version of the original up the coast — beer made on-site, pub menu that runs beyond the usual fish tacos. The 4.5 rating across 1,300+ reviews is consistent: food, service, and atmosphere all land in the same range, which means they're not coasting on the beer alone. The atmosphere score edges slightly higher, probably because of the patio and the fact that it's one of the few spots in the old town where you can sit outside with a flight and not feel like you're in a postcard shop. Mid-range pricing keeps it accessible, and the value subrating suggests portions hold up. If you want something darker or hoppier than a Corona and you're already walking the art district, this works. Gets busy Thursday through Saturday evenings.

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos

Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos sits on the San José del Cabo beachfront where the malecón meets the sand. It's an all-inclusive built for families — pools, swim-up bars, kids' clubs, multiple restaurants under one wristband. The service rating at 4.6 backs up what you'll notice on arrival: staff moves fast, rooms turn over clean, and the beach setup gets restocked without you flagging anyone down. Rooms pull a 4.5 for both comfort and sleep quality, which matters when you're sharing walls with other families. The value score of 4.3 reflects what all-inclusives do — you prepay everything, so daily decisions shrink to where you eat dinner. Location works if you want the San José side but still want resort containment; downtown is a short ride if you need to leave the property. Fourteen thousand reviews at 4.4 overall means it delivers the expected all-inclusive experience consistently. Cleanliness scores high. If you're bringing kids and want predictable infrastructure, this does it.

San José del Cabo

Royal Solaris Los Cabos

Royal Solaris Los Cabos anchors the southern end of the hotel zone in San José del Cabo, close enough to the marina to walk but far enough out to have elbow room. It's an all-inclusive built for families who want predictable value — serviceable rooms, multiple pools, and nightly entertainment that runs the gamut from mariachi to foam parties. The staff scores consistently high, which matters when you're dealing with kids and meal timing. Rooms and sleep quality sit at 4.0, so manage expectations accordingly; this isn't a design showcase, but cleanliness holds at 4.4 and the price tier reflects what you're getting. The location rating of 4.4 makes sense if you're okay being a short taxi ride from the San José art walk and slightly removed from downtown Cabo San Lucas. It's quieter here. The beach isn't swimmable most of the year, but the pool setup compensates. If you need every meal and drink covered without scanning menus for prices, it does the job without drama.

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos sits on a quiet stretch of beach in San José del Cabo, tucked into the calmer east side of the cape. It's adults-only, which means no splash zones or chicken-nugget buffets — the pitch is swim-up bars, poolside service, and an actual spa people use. The 4.8 cleanliness score isn't decorative; housekeeping here is relentless, and the all-inclusive format means you're not navigating receipts every time you order a drink or book a treatment. Over ten thousand reviews have it at 4.5 overall, with service and sleep quality both clearing 4.6. The golf course next door is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus track if that matters to you; if not, the beach is swimmable most days, which isn't a given everywhere in Cabo. Location score sits at 4.5 — you're a short ride from the gallery district and restaurants in San José, but far enough out that the property itself stays quiet. Value comes in at 4.4, which is fair for an all-inclusive this dialed in.

Cynthia Fresh Organic Restaurant

Cynthia Fresh Organic Restaurant sits in the hotel zone of San José del Cabo, in Plaza Caracol between the Decameron and Las Mañanitas condos. The 4.7 food rating is doing most of the work here — that's high enough to notice in a market full of hotel-adjacent options charging similar prices. The organic angle is in the name, and evidently they're executing on it given the gap between food scores and the slightly lower marks for service and atmosphere. Mid-range pricing with a 4.5 value rating suggests the portions or quality justify what you're paying, which isn't always the case in the hotel zone. Over 550 reviews and still holding a 4.5 overall means they're consistent enough to handle volume without falling apart. If you want produce-forward cooking without driving into town or paying resort prices, this is the accessible option.

San José del Cabo

El Merkado

El Merkado is tucked into a courtyard off the highway in San José del Cabo, built around a bunch of independent food stalls and a central bar. The atmosphere rating (4.6) is the tell—this is the kind of place where you order tacos from one counter, ceviche from another, and wood-fired pizza from a third, then grab a table wherever you can find one. The food holds up (4.5), and at mid-range pricing with a 4.3 value score, it's aimed at people who want variety without the resort markup. Service is looser than a single-kitchen restaurant because you're dealing with multiple vendors, but the 4.4 suggests most of them keep it moving. It fills up with a mix of locals and tourists who've figured out that San José has better food infrastructure than the Cabo San Lucas marina strip. Go hungry enough to try more than one stall.
