Cabo area guide
Pacific Side
The Pacific Side is the dramatic, open-ocean edge of Cabo — mostly Pedregal's cliffside homes and the resort developments north toward Diamante and Quivira. You're here for the sunsets, the raw surf, and the near-total absence of swimmable beach. The coastline is beautiful in a wind-and-wave way, not a float-with-a-drink way. Most of the resorts anchor themselves with infinity pools and golf courses because the ocean itself is for looking at, not getting in.

Base here if
- Travelers who want serious resort amenities (Nobu kitchens, spa programs, Jack Nicklaus golf) without the Médano Beach crowds
- Sunset chasers who prioritize the view over ocean swimming
- Golfers staying at Diamante or Quivira who want walking access to the course
- Anyone seeking quiet and privacy in a gated development with top-tier service scores
Look elsewhere if
- Families with young kids who want calm, swimmable water — the Pacific side is rough year-round
- Beach walkers who want miles of shore access — most resorts here are self-contained and the public beaches are scattered and empty
- Budget travelers — the Pacific resorts skew luxury and you'll need a car or expensive taxis to reach town dining
- Anyone who wants to walk to restaurants and nightlife — you're isolated out here and Cabo San Lucas proper is a 15–20 minute drive
The vibe
Morning feels serene and private — you're watching surfers from your terrace while the rest of Cabo is still asleep. By 9pm the energy stays mellow; most people are finishing dinner at the resort restaurant or watching the waves from the fire pit. This isn't where the party happens. It's where you go when you've done the party elsewhere and want to sleep through it.
On foot vs. with wheels
You're not walking anywhere beyond your resort grounds. Anica, Bacari, and Izzy's are inside the Diamante/Quivira complexes, but even those require a golf cart or shuttle. A car or prearranged transfer is necessary for any meal outside the property, any trip to the marina, or any supply run. Parking is easy at the resorts but irrelevant if you're staying put. Taxis out here are sparse — book rides in advance or rely on resort concierge.

A day based here
How a Pacific Side day actually goes.
Morning
Breakfast at your resort, then a walk along the empty sand at Playa Buenos Aires if you've rented a car and want the solitude. If you're golfing, tee times at Quivira or Diamante start early to beat the wind. Otherwise, settle into a morning spa session at Solmar Spa Collection or the in-house treatment room.
Afternoon
Lunch at Anica or Bacari if you're staying in Diamante. The afternoon is for the pool — the Pacific is too rough for swimming but perfect for sitting and staring. If you want action, book a trimaran sail with Cabo Blue or a fishing trip with Blue Sky Cabo, both launching from the marina 20 minutes south.
Evening
Dinner at Izzy's inside Diamante if you're staying close, or drive into Cabo San Lucas for something off-resort. Sunset happens around 6–7pm depending on season, and the Pacific side delivers the best unobstructed view on the peninsula. After dark, most people stay on property — there's no nightlife out here and the resorts know it, so the bars and fire pits stay open late.
Good to know
- The Pacific beaches are not swimmable. No matter how calm it looks, the undertow and surf are serious year-round. Pools and hot tubs are where you get wet.
- Nobu and Grand Solmar properties sit far enough from downtown that every off-site meal or errand requires a car or taxi. Budget $30–50 USD each way if you're not renting.
- Most Pacific-side resorts are gated and self-contained. Confirm in advance whether your property allows walk-ins for restaurants or beach clubs if you're visiting for the day.
- Sunset timing matters here — the western exposure is unbeatable, but cloud cover in summer can block the show. Winter and spring give you the clearest views.
- If you're golfing at Quivira or Diamante, book tee times early in your trip. Wind picks up by late morning and the courses are in high demand.
- The All Ways Cabo and Eliker Transfer services both score perfectly on reliability and are worth booking for airport runs — Ubers are inconsistent this far from the corridor.
