Casa Maat At JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa is an adults-only 5-star resort in San José del Cabo with 100 rooms rated 4.9/5 by 481 TripAdvisor reviewers; typical rates from about $720 a night; direct beach access.

About

Casa Maat sits inside the JW Marriott compound in Puerto Los Cabos, on the quieter San José side. It's a resort-within-a-resort setup — you get JW's beach and amenities plus a separate adults-only tier with its own concierge layer and pool access. The 4.9 rating holds across nearly 500 reviews, and the perfect 5.0 for service isn't a fluke; guests consistently call out staff by name in the threads. The subratings are remarkably even — rooms, cleanliness, and sleep quality all sit at 4.8 or higher, which suggests the product is dialed in rather than propped up by one standout feature. Value comes in at 4.7, which is solid for the category. Location scores 4.8; you're not in the Corridor's density, but the trade is space and a swimmable beach that doesn't require a flag system. If you want full-service polish without the San Lucas energy, this is the formula. Just know you're buying into the JW ecosystem — for better or worse, depending on how you feel about resort infrastructure.

Recent Pulse

What travelers are saying.

Steady

Low confidence

Travelers say Casa Maat delivers exceptional butler-driven service inside a boutique setup on the JW Marriott campus. Staff remember names and preferences after the first interaction, anticipate needs poolside (moving umbrellas without being asked, delivering ice buckets), and coordinate everything via WhatsApp. The semi-inclusive model covers full cooked-to-order breakfast, midday ceviche and guacamole, plus themed five-course dinners with complimentary bar service from 6–8 pm. Breakfast earns high praise; dinner quality splits opinion, with some calling it mediocre cafeteria fare. The quiet atmosphere and 40-room scale attract couples seeking calm over nightlife.

Standing out

Staff remember repeat guests by name and recall drink/meal preferences after day one

“Breakfast team knew our pineapple mimosa order and extra syrup preference after the first morning”
Butler team (Jesus, Ricardo, Dassaed, Abraham) responds in minutes via WhatsApp for any request
58 mentions
“Butlers tracked down lost items across the property and packed them before our ride arrived”
Pool attendant Luis repositions umbrellas throughout the day without guests asking
18 mentions
“Luis adjusted our shade all day long, never had to lift a finger or ask once”
Breakfast buffet with made-to-order eggs, fresh-squeezed juices, smoothies, and pineapple mimosas
31 mentions
“Poached pears filled with mascarpone at breakfast—I'll dream about this forever”
No towel-game scramble; pool loungers with cushions and umbrellas available any time of day
14 mentions
“Never had to rush down to claim a chair—spots open all day regardless of arrival time”

Watch-outs

No air conditioning in gym, lounge, or public areas—only guest rooms cooled, making 95°F+ unbearable
7 mentions
“Gym is oppressively hot with no AC for four years running; shirtless guests sweating everywhere”
Included dinner is cafeteria-quality with bland, lukewarm, underseasoned food (beans boiled in plain water, fatty tacos)
9 mentions
“Birria was oily with no flavor; had to add massive salsa just to make it edible”
Pool tiles missing or falling off; property showing wear despite high price point
6 mentions
“Pool losing tiles throughout the stay; surprised they're not repairing during slow August season”

Tips from travelers

Communicate via WhatsApp with the butler team—they respond faster than front desk and coordinate everything
Eat breakfast at Casa Maat but consider paying extra for JW restaurants at dinner; included dinner is hit-or-miss
Avoid the gym unless it's early morning or late evening—no AC makes midday workouts unbearable in warm months
If traveling in August, expect extreme heat in all public spaces with only fans for cooling

Maybe skip if: Skip if you need guaranteed adults-only (families with young children do appear despite marketing), want lively nightlife or entertainment, or expect gourmet all-inclusive dining rather than semi-inclusive with variable dinner quality.

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos Golf & Spa Resort

Secrets Puerto Los Cabos sits on a quiet stretch of beach in San José del Cabo, tucked into the calmer east side of the cape. It's adults-only, which means no splash zones or chicken-nugget buffets — the pitch is swim-up bars, poolside service, and an actual spa people use. The 4.8 cleanliness score isn't decorative; housekeeping here is relentless, and the all-inclusive format means you're not navigating receipts every time you order a drink or book a treatment. Over ten thousand reviews have it at 4.5 overall, with service and sleep quality both clearing 4.6. The golf course next door is an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus track if that matters to you; if not, the beach is swimmable most days, which isn't a given everywhere in Cabo. Location score sits at 4.5 — you're a short ride from the gallery district and restaurants in San José, but far enough out that the property itself stays quiet. Value comes in at 4.4, which is fair for an all-inclusive this dialed in.

Hotel El Ganzo

Hotel El Ganzo sits on La Playita beach in San José del Cabo, a working fishing village on the east end of town. The property splits the difference between boutique hotel and artist residency—rotating musicians and visual artists leave installations in the rooms and common spaces, and there's a recording studio downstairs that hosts live sessions most nights. It's a leftover from when this part of San José was still quiet. The 4.6 rating holds across most categories, with cleanliness scoring highest at 4.8 and rooms and sleep quality both at 4.7. Service and location match the overall mark. Value sits at 4.4, which makes sense given the price tier and the fact that you're paying for a scene as much as a stay. The rooftop pool overlooks the marina and the Sea of Cortez. Breakfast is strong. If you want the polished all-inclusive experience, this isn't it—but if you'd rather hear a jazz set than a cover band, it works.

JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa

The JW Marriott sits on the quieter Puerto Los Cabos side in San José del Cabo, where the Sea of Cortez is swimmable and the pace runs slower than downtown Cabo San Lucas. The resort pulls strong marks across the board—rooms and cleanliness both score 4.8, sleep quality and service hit 4.7—which suggests they're getting the basics right at scale. Over 2,000 reviews landed it at a solid 4.5, so the consistency is real. What stands out is the location rating at 4.5 despite being outside the Tourist Corridor. Puerto Los Cabos trades proximity to nightlife for actual swimming beaches and a marina feel. The value score of 4.2 is the lowest subcategory, which tracks for a full-service Marriott on the water—you're paying for reliability and the points program as much as the place itself. If you want a resort that works without surprises, this delivers that.

Flora's Field Kitchen

Flora's Field Kitchen is a farm-to-table restaurant out in Animas Bajas, about twenty minutes east of San José del Cabo. It sits on a working organic farm, which means the menu changes based on what's ready — mostly salads, wood-fired pizzas, and composed plates that lean vegetable-forward. The atmosphere rating (4.8) isn't surprising; you're eating outside under trees with rows of crops on all sides, and it feels a world away from the hotel zone. The food scores higher than the value, which tracks — portions are moderate and prices reflect the ingredients and the setting. Service is polished without feeling formal. Reservations help, especially on weekends when the brunch crowd shows up. It's a popular stop for people staying in the East Cape or anyone looking for something slower and greener than the beachfront scene.

San José del Cabo

Don Sanchez Restaurant

Don Sanchez sits on Boulevard Mijares in the heart of San José del Cabo's art district, and it's one of the few fine-dining spots in town that locals actually recommend. The 4.7 food rating across more than 1,300 reviews tells you what you need to know — the kitchen is consistent and the menu doesn't rely on tricks. Service matches the same 4.7, which matters when you're paying fine-dining prices and the room is full. The atmosphere rating is equally high, so expect tablecloths and a slower pace than the taco stands down the street. The value subrating sits at 4.4, which is solid for the category — fine dining in Cabo can feel extractive, and this doesn't. If you're spending a night in San José and want a proper dinner without driving back toward the Corridor, this is the move.

San José del Cabo

Ricketts Bar MX

Ricketts Bar MX is on Boulevard Mijares in San José del Cabo, the walkable main drag that runs toward the estuary. It's a small spot with a perfect 5-star rating across 12 reviews, which at mid-range pricing suggests they're doing something consistently right. The value and service subratings both max out at 5, and in a town where tourist-trap pricing is common along Mijares, that combination stands out. The review count is still building, but the unanimous scoring across fundamentals—value, service, execution—means repeat visitors or strong word-of-mouth. Mid-range in San José usually means you're paying for quality without the resort markup, and the location puts you within walking distance of the art district and the mission square. Worth checking if you want neighborhood atmosphere without the guesswork.
