Cabo in August
Cabo in August: 94°F highs, 75°F lows, heaviest rain chance of the year · moderate early-month crowds drop off sharply as august wears on and school starts elsewhere. Crowds, hotel prices, when to book, and what's worth doing.
August is Cabo at its hottest, most humid, and most deserted — air and water both pushing 94°F and 82°F, afternoon storms rolling through every few days, and resorts slashing rates to fill rooms during hurricane season's peak window. Crowds thin to almost nothing by late month; the Trade is heat and flexibility for the year's deepest discounts and empty beaches. This is the month for travelers who want Cabo to themselves and can handle sweat, book refundable rates, and pack travel insurance.
Updated September 2026
Temperature
94°F highs, 75°F lows — the hottest month, humid mornings, air conditioning is not optional
Wind
Light to moderate offshore breezes, but the humidity makes August feel heavier than any other month on the calendar
Rain
Heaviest rain chance of the year — expect occasional afternoon thunderstorms, mostly short but intense, concentrated mid-to-late month
Crowds & prices
Moderate early-month crowds drop off sharply as August wears on and school starts elsewhere; by the last week you'll have Medano Beach nearly to yourself. Hotels run mid-tier pricing early, then drop into true low season — this is when you find empty pools and four-star resorts at two-star prices. The catch: hurricane season peaks now, some restaurants close for annual maintenance, and you're booking into the weather window when Baja Sur has historically taken direct hits. Reserve refundable rooms, skip the advance nonrefundable deals.
When to book
Book flights 1–2 months out for decent fares; hotels can be booked shorter (2–4 weeks) since inventory is wide open and last-minute deals appear as the month approaches. Always book refundable rates and add travel insurance — August–October is when storms actually hit, and you want the ability to move dates without penalty.

What to do
What August is made for.
Pack for August
- High-SPF reef-safe sunscreen — UV is relentless even with cloud cover
- Lightweight, moisture-wicking clothes and a second swimsuit so one can dry
- Light rain jacket or packable poncho for afternoon storms
- Electrolyte packets — the humidity will drain you faster than you expect
- Hat with a brim and sunglasses you don't mind sweating through
Know before you go
- Book everything refundable and buy travel insurance that covers hurricanes — August is peak storm season and Baja Sur has taken direct hits in this window.
- Morning is the move: beaches, fishing, tours — do them early before the afternoon heat and potential storms roll in.
- Medano Beach thins out dramatically late month; grab a palapa early and you'll own it all day without the usual chair scramble.
- Check resort closure lists before booking — some properties shut down for annual maintenance in August and early September.
- Hydrate obsessively and don't underestimate the humidity; this isn't dry desert heat, it's sticky Gulf air.
- Divers: this is your month — 82°F water, excellent visibility, and dive boats running half-empty.
- Watch for flash last-minute deals from resorts trying to fill rooms in the final two weeks — sometimes posted 7–10 days out.
